Guided Play: The Next Step for New Players - 9/9/26

Ready to build your confidence and get more comfortable playing mahjong? Guided Play is designed for newer players who already know the basics of American Mahjong and are ready for more practice with an instructor nearby to answer questions along the way.

While this is not a beginner lesson or instructional class, you'll play alongside other newer players with an instructor on hand to offer guidance, answer questions, and help you work through the game as needed.

Is Guided Play Right for Me?

Guided Play is the perfect next step if you've already learned how to play and have a basic understanding of:

• How to set up and deal
• The Charleston
• How to read and navigate the NMJL card
• The basic flow of play
• Picking and discarding tiles
• Calling tiles and making exposures
• The general goal of building a Mahjong hand

As a general guideline, players should have the equivalent experience of completing approximately two beginner Mahjong lessons before attending Guided Play.

If you're still learning what the tiles are, how to read the card, how the Charleston works, or the basic rules of play, we recommend starting with Mahj 101 before registering for Guided Play.

If you've recently attended a Private Group Lesson or Mahj 101 at Where Dragons Play and have continued practicing, Guided Play is the perfect next step to build confidence, ask questions, and get more comfortable playing independently. And if you learned elsewhere, you're absolutely welcome to join us!
