Take Your Game to the Next Level

You know how to play—now it’s time to learn how to play strategically.

Mahj Strategy is designed for players who understand the rules of American Mahjong, can navigate the NMJL card, and are comfortable playing independently but want to improve their decision-making and increase their chances of winning.

This class moves beyond how to play and focuses on how to think through the game.

We’ll work through strategies such as:

• Choosing a strong direction for your hand

• Reading the card more efficiently

• Knowing when to stay with a hand—and when to pivot

• Making smarter Charleston decisions

• Evaluating which tiles to keep and which to pass or discard

• Recognizing flexible hands and multiple possibilities

• Using exposures to gather information about other players’ hands

• Making more intentional discard decisions

• Understanding offensive vs. defensive play

• Playing efficiently without getting locked into a hand too early

We’ll talk through real-game scenarios and the decision-making behind different plays so you can begin approaching each hand with more confidence and intention.

Please note: This is not a beginner lesson or Guided Play. Players should already understand the rules and flow of American Mahjong and be able to play a game independently.

You don’t have to be an expert—you just need to be ready to move beyond the basics.

Best for: Players who can play independently and are ready to understand the strategy behind stronger, smarter Mahjong play.
