Ready, Set, Mahj! Tournament Prep

Curious about tournament play but not quite ready to jump into the real thing? Ready, Set, Mahj! is designed to give experienced players the opportunity to practice in a tournament-style environment — without the pressure of a full competitive tournament.

During this two-hour session, we’ll begin with a brief overview of tournament flow, timing, table and seat rotations, etiquette, and what to expect on tournament day. Then, it’s time to play! The majority of the event will be timed, tournament-style rounds so you can get comfortable with the pace, format, and transitions of competitive play.

Your host will keep the event moving by running the timer, giving time warnings, facilitating rotations, and answering procedural or tournament-format questions along the way. This is not an instructional class or Guided Play, so participants should already know how to play American mahjong independently.

We’ll keep score throughout the afternoon to give you the feel of a true tournament experience — and add a little friendly competition with a small prize for our top finisher!

Whether you're preparing for your first tournament or simply want to sharpen your tournament-day confidence, this low-pressure practice session is the perfect place to get comfortable before the real competition begins.

Best for: Experienced players who can play independently and want to practice tournament-style play.

This event is BYO snacks & beverages!
